Course Overview
This course equips delegates with the knowledge and skills needed to assess and report on the conformance and effective implementation of an internal environmental management system. This course is certified by IRCA, course certification number A17283.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Describe the responsibilities of an internal auditor and describe the role of internal audit in the maintenance and improvement of management systems, in accordance with ISO 19011
- Explain the purpose and structure of ISO 14001, and explain the principles, process and selected techniques used for the assignment and management of environmental aspects and impacts, including the significance of these for MES auditors
- Plan and prepare for an internal audit
- Gather audit evidence through observation, internal and sampling of documents and records
- Write factual audit reports that help to improve the effectiveness of the management system
- Suggest ways in which the effectiveness of corrective action might be verified.
Certification
Successful completion of this course and the ISO 14001 foundation course fulfils parts of the training requirements for certification and an EMS internal auditor with the IRCA, delegates will be awarded a certificate.

Course Overview
The purpose of this course is to equip delegates with the knowledge and skills needed to perform advanced EMS audits. It provides an opportunity for environmental professionals to develop and practise their skills in all phases of ISO 14001:2004. This course is IEMA approved and is certified by IRCA, course certification number A17262.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:
- Describe the purpose of an environmental management system
- Explain the scope EMS standards and, where applicable, other criteria against which an EMS audit could be performed
- Describe the principles, processes and techniques used for the assessment of risk and the significance of these in all environmental management systems
- Interpret the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 management systems specification in the context of an audit
- Effectively plan and conduct an audit of the management and operation of an organisation in accordance with the requirements of relevant EMS audit criteria and ISO 19011
- Report the audit, including writing valid, factual and value-adding nonconformity reports
- Undertake audit follow-up activities, including evaluating the effectiveness of corrective and preventive action
Certification
Participants are continually assessed and required to complete a midcourse test along with an end-of-course written examination, delegates will be awarded a certificate.
